Plans for specialist housing approved
Planning permission has been granted for an exciting dementia care and supported living housing development in the London Borough of Sutton.
Housing 21, a leading provider of housing services, care and health services for older people will provide 40 specialist dementia extra care apartments along with nine apartments to enable supported independent living for adults with learning disabilities.
Built on the site of the former Franklin House dementia care home in Redford Avenue, the £6.5 million scheme of extra care apartments for people with dementia will be built in clusters of 10, with each cluster sharing a communal area. Residents will be able to enjoy the privacy of their own apartment whilst still having the opportunity to interact with their neighbours in the communal space.
Other facilities include a guest suite for visiting relatives and friends, an assisted bathroom and a buggy store. For those that need it, staff will also be on hand to provide help and support 24 hours a day.
Cllr Colin Stears, Chair of the Adult Social Service and Health Committee said: “Providing our older residents with appropriate supported housing, is and always will be a top priority for Sutton Council. We are pleased to be working so closely with Housing 21 and its partners to provide local people with 21st Century facilities that will assist older people to live independently.”

The scheme, in the heart of the recently regenerated Roundshaw area, will be partly funded with a grant of £1.6 million from the Homes and Communities Agency.
